General Erbs Palsy FAQ's
1. I’ve heard the term Brachial
Plexus Palsy in the same discussion as Erb’s Palsy; what is
that? It is another name for Erb’s Palsy as is
Shoulder Dystocia. 2.
What kind of treatment should we expect? Physical and
electrical therapy, surgery and at home exercises.
3. When does an Erb's Palsy
injury occur? Most often during birth.
4. I’ve heard of Cerebral
Palsy; is it the same thing? Not necessarily. Cerebral
palsy is an umbrella-like term used to describe a group of
chronic disorders impairing control of movement that appear in
babies and does not generally worsen over time. The disorders
are caused by faulty development of or damage to motor areas in
the brain that disrupts the brain's ability to control movement
and posture. 5. How
long will my child take to recover? In many cases it
may only be a few months, yet in more serious cases the process
may take up to two years. Beyond your child’s second birthday,
you’re less likely to see any more improvement.
6. Should I contact an attorney
regarding my child’s Erb’s Palsy? Possibly. The
attorney you contact should have expertise in medical
malpractice and specifically in Cerebral or Erb’s Palsy to best
meet your needs.
